The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario. A Conservation Authority's jurisdiction is based on a watershed an area of land drained by one stream or river. The CRCA is actually made up of ten watersheds, including the large Cataraqui and Gananoque river systems, as well as smaller systems like Wilton and Buells creeks

Conservation Authorities, created in 1946 by an Act of the Provincial Legislature, are mandated to ensure the conservation, restoration, and responsible management of Ontario’s water, land, and natural habitats through programs that balance human and environmental needs.

Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority was established in 1958. Our mandate is to establish and undertake programs to promote the conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in partnership with local Municipalities and the Province. Our partners include: Region of Durham, Cities of Oshawa and Pickering, Towns of Ajax and Whitby, Municipality of Clarington, Townships of Scugog and Uxbridge.

Conservation Halton is a community based environmental agency that protects local ecosystems in partnership with its watershed municipalities. As an agency established under the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario, Conservation Halton forms a partnership with the Province of Ontario and the Regional Municipalities of Halton, Peel and Hamilton-Wentworth and Puslinch Township.

Conservation Ontario is the umbrella organization that represents Ontario's 36 Conservation Authorities.

Conservation Authorities are local, watershed management agencies that deliver services and programs that protect and manage water and other natural resources in partnership with government, landowners and other organizations.

In 1946, the Province of Ontario enacted the Conservation Authorities Act, permitting municipalities in a watershed (or watersheds) to form a Conservation Authority to conserve and manage natural resources. In 1957, the Metropolitan Toronto and Region Conservation Authority was formed, replacing four smaller authorities. In December of 1997, Bill 148 amended the Conservation Authorities Act changing the name of the Metropolitan Toronto and Region Conservation Authority to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, reflecting the amalgamation of the former cities and borough within Metropolitan Toronto.

In 2004 Credit Valley Conservation celebrated 50 years of working to protect the natural environment within the 1000 km2 drained by the Credit River and its 1,500 km of tributaries.

For over 40 years, the Crowe Valley Conservation Authority has worked along side its member municipalities and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to provide valuable services to the citizens of the Crowe River watershed. The CVCA is a proud member of Conservation Ontario.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority was established in 1973 to manage the natural resources of the Essex Region in partnership with our member municipalities and the Province of Ontario. Our nine member municipalities Include the City of Windsor, County of Essex and the Township of Pelee Island.

The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority overall goal is the conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources on a watershed basis while providing for the public enjoyment of the lands it oversees.
