The first task of the Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee is to develop its own Terms of Reference (TOR). The TOR will outline steps to be taken to develop and implement the Source Protection Plan. It will set out who is responsible for carrying out different activities.
TERMS OF REFERENCE PUBLIC CONSULTATION PROCESS
A 35-day comment period followed the publication of the draft Terms of Reference on the Internet on May 23, 2008. Written comments from the public regarding this draft Terms of Reference were received by the Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee until Thursday, June 26, 2008. Two sets of written comments were received by the Committee.
A public consultation session to seek input on this topic was held in the City of Timmins at the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority office on June 17, 2008. Advertisements for the "Open House" were placed in two local newspapers, municipal offices, and on the Drinking Water Source Protection website.
The Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee submitted their Draft Terms of Reference to the Mattagami Region Source Protection Authority on July 18, 2008.
The Source Protection Authority held an additional 30-day public comment period which ended on August 16, 2008. No comments were received.
The Source Protection Authority then submitted the Proposed Terms of Reference to the Minster of the Environment for approval on September 22, 2008.
